Towards a More Circular World
10-11 November, 2025 | Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Over the past decade, the ASEAN region has experienced robust economic growth and a strong recovery from the pandemic. It is expected to remain one of the fastest-growing regions of the global economy and an increasingly important growth engine, buoyed by its widening role in global manufacturing supply chains. The continued expansion of domestic consumption and exports has drawn massive investments into ASEAN’s paper packaging industry, which have been fuelled by China’ imposition of a ban on recovered paper imports.
Under such context, with supports from associations including MPPMA, APKI, VPPA, CPICC, and CRRA, we successfully delivered our 1st ASEAN Pulp & Paper Summit in Kuala Lumpur last November, alongside the 36th FAPPI Conference.
Looking further into 2025, our plan is to build on last year’s momentum, to deliver a more comprehensive 2nd ASEAN Pulp and Paper Summit, focusing on the circular economy that the paper industry brings about, from recycling, paper manufacturing, packaging, end users and back to recycling, with a potential addition of a paper/packaging/recycling tech trade show.
Growing Powerhouse of Global Manufacturing, poised to benefit from geopolitical competition between US and China.
An integrated market, defined by arrangement like ASEAN and all sorts of free trade agreements.
Vast land and vast population, growing middle class.
One of the fastest growing economies, esp. the manufacturing sector, and beneficiary of ever tense Sino- US geopolitical competition.
Booming pulp and paper industry, esp. in the packaging sector.
Growing investment appetite from Chinese and international industry leaders, such as Oji, Rengo, ND, Lee & Man, Sun Paper, etc.
A growing local market + huge China appetite for better-quality containerboard.
China RCP imports ban announced in 2017 and effective after 2020 triggered an ever faster growing paper packaging sector in Southeast Asia, both for containerboard and AOCC based recycled fiber.
Growing local manufacturing leads to long-term growing prospect for the packaging paper demand.
Waves of investments in the overall paper packaging supply chain, from recycled pulp, containerboard, to converting plants, etc.
Growing demand and investment also contributes to make Southeast Asia one of the most important RCP importer these days, partially make up the loss from China.
